In the fall of 2012 Anaheim residents and visitors alike will be treated to a new communal gathering place in the heart of downtown, complete with refurbished historic structures and new exciting uses. The Packing District includes the restored Packard Car Showroom (now home to Anaheim Brewery with famed LA burger joint, Umami Burger, to open this spring), an outdoor marketplace/park and the restored Citrus Packing House.
Built in 1919, the restored Packing House will serve as a culinary center that brings together artisan food producers and purveyors in a public market type setting. The bright 42,000-square-foot historic warehouse will feature communal dining, railroad car patios, an indoor music venue and unique culinary offerings.
Complementary to the Packing House will be the adjacent Farmer’s Park and the Packard Car Showroom, currently home to Anaheim Brewery. Rich in history itself, the Brewery (www.anaheimbrew.com) was originally founded in 1888 and then shuttered during Prohibition. Greg and Barbara Gerovac have revived this heritage a stone’s throw from the brewery’s original location. Umami Burger will open this spring and share a large landscaped beer garden with the Brewery. Farmer’s Park is an outdoor marketplace slated to host weekend farmer’s markets, outdoor concerts and movies, and festivals, as well as two cafes in the park. The Packing House and adjacent park are scheduled to open in June.
